As of now he has plans to leave the area for awhile, Hawaii beckons. Then he's going to see what opportunities are available but unfortunately I don't think Portland will be where he ends up....
As for what 'design differences' entails, he thought he had full control over the restaurant, placement of equipment, style, design, future ventures, etc... Apparently the owners thought differently. I think that the 'design differences' were just the final straw. I don't want to get myself in trouble, this is just what I've heard from him. Haven't heard anyone elses side of the story yet.

I thought chef Coryell was hired for his personality, not his skills in the kitchen. I been on several occasions, and though gracious, I’ve never seen “chef” in the kitchen. If the food can match what I’ve experienced in the past Ill be back. as for design issues, the place is weird but cool, what could be the big deal?

Merged.
My one trip in he was there in the kitchen. And I know others reported seeing him on the line.
This is the type of place, though, where the chef is going to matter A LOT and they haven't had enough time, I wouldn't think, to be able to replicate. Plus, with changing seasons, that makes that job tougher. I'd be worried about my next visit.

Out of all the times I've been (5) he was on the line. To echo MSG, the changing seasons will be tough. I was really curious to see what he'd be able to do. What a royal bummer!
aidensnd....Which island in Hawaii? I'll be there in 3 weeks maybe I'll find him! (Or wait maybe not...I'm going to eat fish daily)

I am very sad about his leaving the area. I hope Nutshell can maintain the quality he brought to the place. A good vegan chef seems so hard to find and that man and his crew totally had it going on!
Continued good luck and success to Nutshell.
I wish Chef Sean the best going forward and lucky whoever that gets to eat his meals in the future.
Best regards,
Amanda

On the one hand, you figure, they probably still know the CURRENT menu and it's probably safer now than later. On the other hand, you figure, they are without their chef and when they're in the shit, it'll all fall apart.
Sucks. I'd been sending a lot of people there. I think my wife and her family ate there twice since my wife and I did since there are a couple vegans that live here in Portland area.

Fortunately, I ate there the other day for lunch (gotta say, they really need to speed it up at lunch time. Almost 2 hours is just too long, according to my boss at least -it was good though). I really hope they can maintain, I haven't even tried out their dinner yet.

I had some time to follow up on this and called Sean today. He is not leaving. He almost did, expresing his feelings honestly to Dan (Aidensnd), but the situation was rectified and his concerns alleviated so he's staying.

Excellent News. Thanks Nick.
